JOB SUMMARY

As an experienced IT professional with a strong background in library systems and technology management, the IT Librarian is responsible for managing Library operations, including data collection and software applications, and for providing technical support to Library staff and patrons. In addition to organizing and structuring Library systems to ensure efficient operations and seamless access to digital resources, the IT Librarian possesses excellent problem-solving abilities and a passion for leveraging technology to enhance Library services.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  1. Manages shared storage access:
  2. Follows up the user access controls, permissions, and authentication protocols.
  3. Oversees the shared storage structure and naming convention.
  4. Acts as Library software administrator:
  5. Administers and supports various software applications used within the Library, including the Integrated Library System (ILS), digital asset management systems, library catalogs, and other software essential to Library operations.
  6. Checks for new releases of all Library applications and follows up on their upgrades and updates.
  7. Collaborates with vendors and developers to troubleshoot software issues and follows up the implementation of necessary fixes or enhancements.
  8. Ensures system integration and interoperability:
  9. Suggests required integrations of Library systems with other institutional platforms, such as aggregators, learning management systems, authentication services, and digital repositories.
  10. Collaborates with stakeholders to identify integration needs and develop appropriate solutions.
  11. Preserves data security and privacy:
  12. Ensures compliance with data protection regulations and Library privacy policies.
  13. Provides technical support and training:
  14. Provides technical support and assistance to Library staff and patrons, resolving hardware and software issues promptly and effectively.
  15. Offers training sessions and workshops to Library staff on software usage, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  16. Conducts technology evaluation and planning:
  17. Evaluates new technologies relevant to Library operations.
  18. Conducts feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed technology implementations.
  19. Collaborates with stakeholders to define technology requirements and develop strategic plans for technology upgrades and improvements.
  20. Undertakes project management duties:
  21. Gathers requirements from Library staff and cooperates with the IT department to address software needs.
  22. Leads technology projects within the Library, such as system migrations, software implementations, or infrastructure upgrades.
  23. Defines project goals, develops project plans, and creates timelines.
  24. Monitors project progress, identifies risks, and implements mitigation strategies.
  25. Handles documentation and knowledge sharing tasks:
  26. Maintains accurate documentation of Library systems.
  27. Creates user guides, manuals, and technical documentation for Library staff and patrons.
  28. Stays informed about library industry standards, trends, and best practices related to technology infrastructure, software applications, and data management.
  29. Participates in professional development activities, attends conferences, and engages in relevant online forums or communities.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Proven experience working in IT roles with a focus on library systems and technologies.
  2. Familiarity with library-specific software applications, data privacy, and security regulations.
  3. In-depth knowledge of library systems, operations, and best practices.
  4. Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  5. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  6. Detail, solution, and customer-service oriented.
  7. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  8. Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and software applications.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Educational background: Master’s degree in Library Science or a relevant discipline is preferred.
