JOB SUMMARY

The Internal Auditor helps carry out the university’s annual audit plan by independently reviewing academic, administrative, financial, and student service operations. The role focuses on evaluating governance, risk management, and internal controls, performing audits, and providing recommendations to improve efficiency, accountability, and overall operations in line with professional standards.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  1. Obtains an understanding of audited units and their business processes through meetings with relevant staff and review of supporting documentation.
  2. Conducts internal audit engagements in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Internal Audit Office and the professional standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
  3. Performs audit procedures, including substantive and analytical testing, and documents results in a clear, accurate, and well-organized manner.
  4. Collects and analyzes relevant information to support audit observations and conclusions.
  5. Ensures that audit procedures adequately address identified risks and control objectives.
  6. Communicates regularly with the Director of the Internal Audit Office regarding the progress of audit engagements and any issues encountered during fieldwork.
  7. Participates in audit engagement activities, including planning, kick-off, status update, and exit meetings.
  8. Assists in the preparation of draft audit reports and provides input on audit observations and recommendations.
  9. Participates in follow-up reviews to assess the implementation status of agreed audit recommendations.
  10. Develops and maintains professional working relationships with unit heads and process owners across the University.
  11. Contributes to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement initiatives within the Internal Audit Office.
  12. Participates in periodic meetings of the Internal Audit Office and supports administrative activities as required.
  13. Assists in special assignments, ad-hoc reviews, advisory engagements, or compliance-related projects as instructed by the Director of the Internal Audit Office.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the Internal Audit Office.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  1. Good understanding of risks and internal control frameworks related to financial, operational, and administrative processes.
  2. Working knowledge of internal auditing standards and practices issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
  3. Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate data to support audit conclusions and recommendations.
  6. Good organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
  7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within a diverse university community across academic, administrative, and student service units.
  8. Strong active listening and communication skills.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Visio.
  10. High level of integrity and adherence to professional ethical standards.
  11. Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  12. Positive attitude and proactive approach to work.
  13. Fluency in Arabic and English; knowledge of French is considered an asset.


EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or any related field.
  2. A relevant professional certification, such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is considered an asset.
  3. 3 years+ of relevant professional experience in internal audit.
