JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs is responsible for the full lifecycle management of USEK’s academic faculty across all phases of recruitment, appointment, promotion, development, and conduct. The incumbent ensures that all faculty-related policies are applied fairly, consistently, and in alignment with the University’s values and strategic priorities.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  1. Develops and oversees frameworks for faculty recruitment, appointment, onboarding, and contract renewal.
  2. Governs promotion, tenure, and performance evaluation criteria for academic staff across all academic units.
  3. Oversees academic ethics, conduct policies, and due process frameworks for faculty matters.
  4. Ensures consistency and fairness of faculty-related decisions across all academic units.
  5. Leads the Faculty Development Unit in designing career pathways, pedagogical development, and leadership programs.
  6. Coordinates with the AI in Education Unit on faculty upskilling and technology integration frameworks.
  7. Serves as the policy authority for faculty affairs and provides guidance to Deans on all faculty governance matters.
  8. Supports academic leadership development for chairs, program directors, and emerging academic leaders.
  9. Ensures MEHE compliance with regard to faculty qualifications and staffing requirements from a governance perspective.
  10. Collaborates with HR on matters at the intersection of faculty governance and employment law.


EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant academic discipline.
  2. Specialization or training in higher education management or faculty development is an asset.
  3. 10 years+ of experience in higher education.
  4. 5 years+ of experience in faculty affairs, academic HR governance, or related governance roles.
  5. Experience managing faculty promotion and evaluation processes.
  6. Knowledge of faculty governance models and academic employment frameworks.
  7. Knowledge of pedagogical development and academic career pathway design.
  8. Familiarity with higher education ethics and due process standards.
  9. Knowledge of Lebanese labor law as applicable to academic employment.
  10. Interest in emerging trends in AI-enabled faculty development.
